New Oil Painting

This is the full-sized value sketch for my latest painting. At 18 x 24", it's the largest oil that I've worked on so far.

Stephanie is a bubbly, young mother of two, with tattoos covering her legs and one arm, piercings, bright red hair, and not an ounce of ambivalence about her choices. She likes to "have her art with her wherever she goes." My goal for this painting is to go beyond the tattoos and piercings to show her gentle personality.

If the painting is as sensitive as the sketch, I think you are well on your way to portraying the person and not the stereotype! You've captured a beautiful, open expression on her face. Composition really works to frame her face, as well. I hope you post more WIP on this one -- I look forward to seeing more. (And save the drawing -- it has a lovely quality of its own!)
