Oom Paul

This is a painting I'm working on right now for a favorite aunt in the Netherlands. This is painted on watercolor canvas instead of paper, which is very different. The surface absorbs practically nothing, so instead of glazing and blending colors into the paper, you need to build up color on top of the canvas. Similar to acrylics. I paint in watercolor because I love the spontaneous, fluid nature of the medium. With canvas, much of that is missing. The plus side of the canvas is that you can wipe any mistakes completely off and start over.
